Significant March Snowstorm This Evening into Early Tomorrow Morning

TIMING: AFTERNOON INTO MONDAY MORNING

ONSET: 3 – 6pm

ENDING: 3 – 5am

SYNOPTIC SETUP: An area of low is currently developing over the Southeastern States and will track northeast towards our region as the day progresses. Precipitation could start as a rain/snow mix as surface temperatures are currently a little above freezing around the region. The rain/snow mix will QUICKLY change over snow as heavier precipitation rates will cool the surface temperatures very rapidly. The heaviest banding looks to setup right along the I-95 corridor with up to 1 – 2″ per hour rates at times. For snow accumulation amounts, I’m thinking 6 – 9 inches along I-95, 3 – 6″ east of I – 95, 1 – 3″ around coastal areas of NJ due to mixing. Low pressure system will start to pull away from our region early tomorrow morning with very cold air behind it for this time of year. School closings/delays likely tomorrow as there will be significant wet snow accumulations meaning it will be hard to clean up the roads in time.
